ZU and ENLIL: Zu a Sumerian dragon storm god, stole the tablets which set out the laws of the Universe from the god Enlil. The sun-god Ninurta was sent to retrieve the tablets and killed Zu in the process, thus preventing the universe from returning to the primordial chaos.
Stories of Zu the dragon were being told as early as 5000BC when the Sumerians settled in Mesopotamia. Mesopotamia is now called Iraq. Zu is also known as Anzu, Asag. Ninurta and Marduk are sometimes interchanged in this myth.
