Italian Dragon Myths

TATZELWORM is a dragon with the appearance of a snake and the forearms of a cat. Many Sicilian farmers have seen it, and a few have even claimed to have killed it. They consider it a great threat to both themselves and their farms.

BOA is a type of dragon that fed on the milk of cows. It was the scourge of farmers as it slithered through the countryside sucking whole herds of cows dry before it devoured them.

In ancient Roman mythology, dragons possessed beneficent powers, dragons could understand and convey secrets of the earth to mortals. Fearsome qualities provided a protective influence, thus Roman legions adopted the dragon symbol and displayed them on their battle standards.
