Hebrew Dragon Myths

DANIEL, the Hebrew prophet, bested a dragon. After the destruction of the temple at Jerusalem, the Jews were exiled to Babylon. At that time, the people of the land worshipped the dragon. Daniel was once a trusted confidant of Astyages, King of Babylon, even though he was of a different religion.

The King told Daniel to worship the dragon, but Daniel refused to worship it. To end this evil idolatry, Daniel told Astyages that he would slay the sacred dragon without the aid of a sword or staff. Daniel boiled tar, fat and hair together and shaped them into solid balls. He forced them down the dragon's throat. The balls exploded in the heat of the beast's belly and the dragon burst.
