Rational decision-making is based on the relationship between
weighted criteria and available alternatives.The framework below
demonstrates this:

Divide the class into groups. Have each group identify an area
of environmental concern. Have them determine the criteria by
which a given alternative course of action will be judged and
have them list them in order of importance. Next brainstorm to
determine all of the alternatives. In each cell of the chart list
the degree that each alternative fulfils each of the criteria.
In determining the final course of action greater weight will
be given to criteria higher on the chart. Have each group present
their decision-making chart to the whole group for discussion.

1. use a variety of print and electronic primary
and secondary sources to gather and assess information and develop
ideas for writing;
2. select and use appropriate writing forms for intended purposes
and audiences with a focus on essays and on narratives or poems;
3. organise and analyse information, ideas, and sources to suit
specific forms and purposes for writing (e.g., group information
and ideas to focus on key concepts for an essay; create a pattern
of imagery for writing a sonnet);
4. formulate and refine a thesis, using information and ideas
from prior knowledge and research (e.g., develop a thesis for
an analysis of a satirical novel; integrate information and ideas
acquired from a variety of sources for a personal essay on a topic
or issue);
5. evaluate information and ideas to determine whether they are
reliable, current, sufficient, and relevant to the purpose and
audience.
