Primary Level Activity #7

After seeing Arising Phoenix, discuss how the artists re-used everything that was a part of the sculpture. Discuss how the re-used parts of the Phoenix were also the instruments on which the artists made their music. Have the students suggest objects that can be used to generate sound. Don't forget bottles, which can sound by blowing into their openings, or glasses or bottles filled with different amounts of liquid and struck gently with a metal object. Don't also forget that the voice may be used as an instrument. Collect these objects and while retelling the story of the Phoenix decide what sounds could be used to add atmosphere or feeling to the story. Perform the accompaniment while the teacher or another student reads the story aloud.
