Primary Level Activity #6
Using the tune to London Bridge or any other simple tune that
the student know and enjoy, create new words that fit the rhythm
of the song. The words must deal with suggestion for reducing
pollution in our environment and must fit the rhythm of the song.
Have the students sing the song until they know the words. Using
the Do-Undo rule (whatever you do, you must undo) create a simple
movement to accompany the singing of the song. Example: if you
walk 4 paces forward on the first 4 beats of the song, on the
next four beats of the song you must walk 4 paces backward (do
& undo). This is a simple way to structure dance and once students
can identify different ways of moving, they can create many variations
for each song. For very young students the activity would be developed
co-operatively. Older students can develop the movements in-group.
