Junior Level Activity #3
Co-operatively or in small groups, have students consider pollution
from the polluter's point of view. This assumes that no one pollutes
purposefully just for the sake of polluting. What factors might
cause individuals or corporations to pollute? What factors might
cause them to continue even though their pollution has been brought
to their attention. What short and long term consequences may
result as a result of trying other solutions? Have each group
create an interview in which the polluter is allowed to voice
his/her concerns on the issue. The activity could be extended
by having the class in whole group respond to the polluter's comments
(constructively) by suggesting possible solutions to their dilemma.
