Intermediate (9 & 10) Level Activity #8
Have each student bring in one object from home that was destined
for the landfill site (preferably something small). Using this
object and construction paper and/or any other materials available,
have each student create their own Phoenix as a freestanding sculpture.

Students will:
1.
apply the elements and principles of design to their own art,
to historical art works, and to natural and constructed environments;
2. understand and apply the elements and principles of design
as expressive components in their personal creative works;
3. demonstrate the ability to incorporate personal interests and
hobbies in their art;
4. describe how some of their own studio activities are influenced
by historical art works;
5. identify, research, and describe careers in visual art;
6. use materials and processes to create art objects that express
their intent;
7. apply the elements and principles of design;
8. produce two and three dimensional art works, using a variety
of materials, tools, processes, and technologies;
9. apply the creative process (i.e., perception, exploration,
experimentation, production, and evaluation) in their work;
10. explain how they have incorporated into their studio assignments
characteristic materials and expressive qualities of art works
studied;
11. explain how their personal art works have been influenced
by works they have viewed in galleries and museums;
12. produce a work designed around specific objectives and challenges
(e.g., composition issues, subject matter, use of visual language);
13. demonstrate the ability to take varied and creative approaches
to using materials, tools, processes, and technologies in studio
activities;
14. explain the importance of process in relation to the final
product;
15. use concepts of visual literacy in describing their art activities.
