Intermediate (9& 10) Level Activity #7
After having seen "Arising Phoenix", ask students
to prepare a critical response to what they saw. Each response
should provide a well written paragraph on each of the following:
main
theme of the work
how that theme was presented
one aspect of the work that was effective
one aspect of the work that distracted
student's feelings about the work
Each
paragraph should include specific examples from the work to support
statements made. Younger students (Gr.7 or 8) may require some
whole group discussion to get them started.

Arts

Students will:
1.
identify and describe, orally and in writing, the elements of
music from a variety of live and/or recorded examples;
2. identify and describe, orally and in writing, how the elements
of music work together in a particular historical style and cultural
context in a variety of musical works that are dealt with chronologically,
conceptually, thematically, and/or by genre;
3. analyse, orally and in writing, the quality and impact of a
variety of live and/or recorded performances and performances
by themselves and their peers, using appropriate music vocabulary
to suggest ways of improving those performances
English
Gr. 9 & 10 Writing
Students will:
1.
use a unifying image, mood, or voice to structure descriptive
paragraphs or poems.
2.
use a single controlling idea and connecting words to structure
a series of paragraphs;
3.
use key words from questions or prompts to organise ideas, information,
and evidence in homework answers;
4.
structure expository paragraphs using a topic sentence, supporting
sentences to develop the topic, connecting words to link the sentences,
and a concluding sentence;
5. provide an introduction, body, and conclusion in written reports
and short essays
6.
revise drafts to ensure that ideas are adequately supported by
relevant details and facts and to achieve clarity, unity, and
coherence (e.g., reinforce a mood or feeling by elaborating the
imagery in a poem or short story; read a supported opinion piece
aloud with a partner or in a small group to check for coherence
and effectiveness; remove redundancies and expand supporting detail
in a report);
7.
revise drafts to ensure consistency in the use of first or third
person and use of an appropriate level of language;
