Intermediate (9& 10) Level Activity #2

Consider the school. Have students identify areas of potential waste i.e. heat, school supplies, unused books, time etc. Divide the class into small groups and have each group research one of these areas of waste using a variety of techniques such as observation, checklists, frequency charts, interviews etc. Have each group report to the whole group on their findings. Each report should consider the following:

description of the waste
frequency of the waste
cause(s) of the waste
what could be done to conserve the resource

The results of this research could be presented to the entire school in a variety of ways: posters, town hall meeting, part of daily announcements or formal presentation.
